For the formation of “THE GETBACK
BAND” we have to travel back to early 2004
to a rehearsal studio where the worlds finest Paul
McCartney impersonator, LawrenceMACCA
was auditioning for a new backing band; a band that had no
name as yet and was destined to play just two gigs together.
Only Bassist Kenny Laine survived this initial
introduction of the band.
Soon the band, under the name “Get Back”,
later to become “The Getback Band”,
was formed. Besides Kenny, there was Alun Goonery
(The Goon), an amazing drummer who was well known
on the circuit.
With the recruitment of top session guitarist Neil
Diment, product demonstrator for Aria & Gretsch
guitars and a life long Beatles fan, the band where sounding
better than ever. All that remained now was to find that final
piece in the jigsaw a keyboard player! Someone who could play
all the complicated McCartney arrangements note perfect and
capture the exact sounds of those Maccatastic Gems!
Enter Fox Amoore, keyboard Meister! Fox
is a natural musician having taken to the keyboard at the
tender age of five years old. He gelled instantly with the
other band members; so with Fox on board, LawrenceMACCA
& THE GETBACK BAND set off late August 2005 for
Liverpool to take part in the worlds Biggest and Best BEATLES
FESTIVAL “INTERNATIONAL BEATLE WEEK 2005”.
With applause still ringing in there ears the band travelled
to Sweden to be greeted by MaccaMania! “Great Audience!
Great Show! Great People!” (Kenny Laine).
On the bands return home however drummer Alun announced he
wanted to pursue other musical projects and it was with sadness
the band reluctantly bowed to his wishes.
Great Drummers don’t grow on trees (is that a book?).
Well they certainly don’t but they sometimes are a friend
of a friend or in this case a friend of Kenny Laine’s!
Enter stage left, Neal Porteous drummer extraordinaire
and absolute Beatlemaniac!
Along with Neal, LawrenceMACCA & The GetBack
Band played many ‘fab’ gigs including
Switzerland and Italy. After which Lawrence announced his
retirement from entertaining so as to devote more time to
his other great passion teaching.
The Band were stunned but wished him every success for the
future and turned their attention to finding a replacement
MACCA! Lawrence would be a tough act to follow but once again
it was a recommendation from within the band itself that saw
Dougie 'Macca' Orr installed as new frontman
to lead the Band.
Dougie had been entertaining audiences from an early age,
playing venues throughout the UK and abroad. Having starred
in the UK talent show ‘Stars in their Eyes’ he
went to Australia for a year, where he began to perfect his
tribute to Sir Paul McCartney and the Fab Four!
His first show with The Getback Band came
only three weeks after he joined and it is a testament to
his ability that he received a standing ovation at the end
of his first performance.
Unfortunately for the band, just after another very successful
stint at International Beatle Week in Liverpool, Neil Diment
announced that his professional music career had developed
to such an extent that he could he longer continue.
Because of commitments the band were thankful for the support
of an amazing guitarist, Neil Humphries (AKA,
Rusty Fingersson!!) who stepped in as cover.
He allowed the Band to star once more at International
Beatle Week and other shows, including the incredible
Alhambra theatre in Dunfermline.
This allowed the band time to look at the direction it was
going and to build on the experiences of the past. Kenny and
Neal decided to explore other avenues of the music of The
Beatles (there are so many!). The band wished them well.
The band today include: Dave Berthal on
guitar, who has an abundance of experience and talent; Kenny
MacLean, a gifted Bassist and one of the leading
talents of his generation. A huge Beatles and McCartney fan;
Gary McAuley, on drums, a drummer at the
top of his game with more to come! Along with Dougie
and Fox they are developing an act
second to none!
THE GETBACK BAND have travelled a long way
from those fledgling beginnings, winning International acclaim
along the way and establishing themselves as one of the foremost
tributes to the music of Paul McCartney & The
Beatles.
